Recorded and live lessons: formats, joining, and recordings

Choose between recorded and live lessons, understand learner materials, join links, calls, and post-lesson recordings.

Recorded and live are delivery modes of the same lesson editor. Choose the mode according to how the learner should receive the material.

Step 1. Choose the lesson mode

In the lesson editor find View mode. Choose Recorded for self-paced content. Choose Live for a scheduled call with teacher and learners. Changing a live lesson back to recorded removes the need for a schedule, so confirm the change before saving.

Recorded and Live are selected in the lesson foundation.

Step 2. Build a recorded lesson

A recorded lesson can contain a video, a PDF presentation, article-style rich text, or all three. The learner opens these materials from the lesson page and can return to them later. Attach homework in the same lesson when practice should follow the content.

Recorded lesson materials
Recorded lessons can combine video, a PDF presentation, and article text.

Step 3. Schedule a live lesson

Choose Live, then set the local date/time and duration in minutes. Read any calendar conflict warning before saving. The saved lesson receives a private managed room; do not publish raw room tokens or copy links into public pages.

Live lesson schedule
Live lessons require a date, time, and duration.

Step 4. Join as the teacher

Open Live room from the teacher account or use the calendar/lesson action. The page shows the lesson, time, room, whiteboard action, and Start lesson. The copy-student-link action creates an authenticated handoff; normally students should use their own account calendar or lesson page.

The teacher sees the scheduled lesson and the private join action.

Step 5. Join as a student

The learner opens the live lesson from the student account or calendar. The live-room page reports whether the room is ready, upcoming, completed, or unavailable and exposes Join only for an accessible session.

Student live-room page
The student sees readiness and joins through an authenticated link.

Step 6. Check devices and enter the room

On the device-check screen confirm that your teacher name is correct. Grant browser permission for the camera and microphone, use the arrow menus to select the intended devices, and speak to verify the microphone level. You can turn either device off before entering. Click Join Room only after the preview and input level are correct.

Call device check
Check the teacher name, camera, microphone, and selected devices before joining the room.

Step 7. Decide whether to record

When the teacher enters the managed call, SubSchool offers recording. Start it when participants have been informed and the session should be available later. The recording control is teacher-only.

Recording prompt in the call
The teacher can start recording when entering the managed call.

Step 8. Use the call interface

Use mute, camera, screen sharing, participants, chat, and whiteboard controls as needed. Stop recording before ending the room and leave the call normally so finalization can complete.

SubSchool call interface
The call includes participant media, sharing, board, and teacher recording controls.

Step 9. Wait for recording processing

After the call ends, recording processing can take time. When ready, the recording is attached to the lesson and becomes available for replay according to course access. If it does not appear, refresh after processing and check the session status before contacting support.

Recording available after the lesson
The completed recording becomes available for later viewing.
